Beautiful hike- it’s about 40minutes to a nice viewpoint and two hours if you go all the way to the top. You’ll have to cross two small streams, and it gets a bit steep toward the end, but it’s worth the view. Not a busy trail compared to other tourist sites in Iceland.

Beware of wind and ice during colder months: be sure to wear proper shoes and gear like gloves and hats. Most of the trail is not roped off, and some parts are very narrow so I wouldn’t recommend it if you have small children due to safety concerns.

Beautiful hike with clear paths and great views. The canyon was very pretty with a very large waterfall. There was a small river crossing and a good steady up hill hike. One of our favourite places in Iceland. Free parking too and you could see a good view of the glacier after a few minutes walking too.

Definitely a hike up, we stopped at the canyon and the 2 waterfalls but I know some others said you can keep going. But it’s steep, and I needed to stop a few times. But in terms of the trail itself, it’s not at all challenging. But the view at the top was SO WORTH IT. The hike up was gorgeous too, and we got lucky with the weather. It was sunny and the trail was dry. We caught one of the last spots in the lot, but there were still some spots in the little overflow area down the road.

Absolutely beautiful and fantastic canyon with great views all the way. Quite strenuous walk to the top (ca 500 meters of altitude ), but we'll worth it . Several scenic waterfalls, view of the Glacier from the top

It takes about 45 mins to reach the top of the hike, with a beautiful view at the end.
Crampons can be useful in winter, although definitely not mandatory.
The start of the hike is a bit hidden, but well pathed with yellow wooden sticks.
The parking is free, but you'll have to drive slowly on the dirt road.

Stunning! You don't even have to go all the way up, but definitely don't stop before reaching the part where you can look down into the canyon with the waterfalls (with the bottom of the canyon). Go to the right as well to the farthermost point, it is a great photo point.
You need to cross a small creek, but there are plenty of rocks you can step on. But to be sure, wear trekking boots.
For us this hike and back took around 2,5 hours, with rests. Parking is free.
