Sandafell er fjallaskýrsla á Íslandi, á prestsóknarferðum að baka úr Thingeyjarsýliveldum og í suðvestan deild á Íslandi. Liggur í Vestfjarðarkjörlunarmýri, á milli fjalla Sandafells og Sveitarfjalls. Sandafell er það fjall sem er á sérstakur að láta fólkði Starfsmannaskýrslu, og er enda en óðvarðandi fjallastígur fyrir fjöllinum áðeins 30-40 minúta að ganga. Fjallið er líka sérstakur að ganga fyrir. Fjöllin eru líka sýnishöfn fyrir hundar og árinlegt. Hver á ári 35.000-40.000 þjónustum, en í árinum 2001-2012 var líka 37.000-40.000. Árlegi 3.000 fólk ganga á fjallið á árinum 2010-2012. Fjallið er líka sérstakur að ganga fyrir og gegnar fólk á árum. Fjöllin eru líka frumheimtur fyrir fólk, hundir og íþróttafélagi.

From the town of Thingeyri, use Google Maps and drive to mountain Sandafell. You will climb about half the mountain in your car, and can then park in a gravel parking (more like a wide gravel shoulder) where you see the square-with-loops sign (point of interest sign).
From there on, you will walk up the mountain on a dirt/rocky road, which is only OK for either hiking or for a high clearance 4x4 - not a regular AWD SUV. There is nowhere to turn around on this dirt road.
The hike is about 2 miles (uphill, not too steep but there’s no respite from the incline) up to the antenna tower, and you can continue past that until the edge too (we stopped a little ways short of the mobile tower). No matter where you hike until, you will see stunning views on both sides.
The town also looks incredibly cute from the high vantage point.
And the fjord looks just astonishingly beautiful.

Sandfell offre une expérience de randonnée accessible à tous les niveaux de compétence. Le chemin menant au sommet est facile à suivre, avec un dénivelé modéré. Après avoir atteint l'antenne, il suffit de continuer tout droit jusqu'au bout pour être récompensé par une vue panoramique à 360° sur les fjords environnants, qui est tout simplement exceptionnelle. Cette randonnée peut être complétée rapidement, donc il n'est pas nécessaire de partir tôt le matin. C'est une excellente option pour ceux qui recherchent une vue spectaculaire sans avoir à entreprendre une ascension difficile.

Vi kjørte hele veien opp til masta med Toyota Land cruiser. Veien var veldig hullete, og Store steiner lå i veien. Må ikke finne på å kjøre opp i mindre bil enn det vi kjørte opp med. Gikk bra med en erfaren sjåfør, selv om jeg nesten fikk et nervøst sammenbrudd. Det fantes noen få møte-lommer langs veien opp (2-4 stk?). Brukte ca 8 minutter hver vei.

Beautiful spot! We ended up driving our 4x4 up the road at the end of May and it was easy enough, although we didn’t go all of the way to the top. There were a few spots along the way to turn around. No WC/bathroom at parking site although there is a town at the base of the trail.

Sehr schöne Kraxelei für bessere 4x4. Der Ausblick oben ist bei schönem Wetter phänomenal, egal in welche Richtung man schaut.

As with everything in Iceland - stunning. We parked in the car park on the 626. Iceland road website says this road is ‘impassable’ right now in April - it’s easily accessible to the car park, blocked much further on. Gravel road. The walk is up a 4x4 track - don’t even think about trying this in a non-4x4 or a low 4x4, lots of bits would be impassible and nowhere to turn around. The walk took us 40mins to the top, fairly slow paced, gentle up-hill walk. Stunning views from the top.

Beautiful views, but I do not recommend driving up the dirt road. It is extremely rocky. Fortunately, it’s only 2km and can easily be climbed by foot! Lots of views on both sides of the fjord and wild flowers.
